What is Geodesic Dome ?

I was missing some geodesic domes, so... (Now available in the ...
IT is a strong, lightweight, prefabricated enclosure that combines the properties of a polyhedron and the sphere and contains no internal support. It combines maximum strength with minimum structure.

The word 'geodesic' describes the shortest distance between two points along a curved line. The surface of the dome is made of equilateral triangular panels arranged in such a way that the weight of the structure is distributed across all panels. A completed dome is called a geodesic sphere, like the building of Spaceship Earth at Epcot, Walt Disney World on USA.

The first ever dome of this kind was constructed in 1926 by planetarium in Germany. The concept was refined and popularized by American designer and engineer Buckminster Fuller in the 1940s, who gave the dome its name.

Since then thousands of domes have been built for use as homes, restaurants, theatres, greenhouses and even radar stations. The geodesic dome is light, strong aerodynamic and economical.
And this concept of domes may be used in multi-planetary missions such as most likely on the surface of mars and further many other habitable planets in future where humanity may travel for terrestrial survival. We may see advanced version of this geodesic domes in the upcoming present.
